This error typically indicates that Windows Security \u2014 specifically, the Controlled Folder Access<\/strong> feature in Microsoft Defender \u2014 has blocked DriverEasy.exe from making changes to a protected folder. This prevents Driver Easy from creating or saving your driver backup files in the default location.<\/span><\/div>\n\n\n\n

When this error occurs, you may also see a notification from Windows Security, like the one shown below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you’re encountering this issue, try the following solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fix 1: Change the Backup Path<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

  1. In Driver Easy, click the current backup path<\/strong>.
    \"\"<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. In the pop-up window, select a different folder where you want to save the driver backup, then click OK<\/strong> to confirm the new location.
    \"\"<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Try backing up your drivers again.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Fix 2: Allow Driver Easy Through Windows Security<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    1. On your taskbar, click Start<\/strong>, type Windows Security<\/strong>, and select Open<\/strong>.

    2. Click Protection history<\/strong>.

    3. Look for the blocked action related to Controlled Folder Access (e.g., \u201cProtected folder access blocked<\/strong>\u201d). Then expand the entry and click Actions > Allow on device<\/strong>.
