Unfortunately, it doesn\u2019t work very well.<\/p>\n            <p>There are two reasons why&#8230;<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"padding-left:20px;\" src=\"..\/wp-content\/themes\/drivereasy\/images\/common\/arrow.png\"\/><\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"device-list\">\n<div class=\"container half\">\n    <p><b>Jump ahead to the section you\u2019re interested in<\/b><\/p>\n    <ul>\n        <li>\n            <p><a href=\"#relytip2\">Device manufacturers often take a long time to get their drivers into a Windows Update<\/a> <span>&#8211; sometimes it never happens.<\/span><\/p>\n        <\/li>\n        <li>\n            <p><a href=\"#relytip1\">Windows Update often ignores driver updates it considers \u2018optional\u2019<\/a><span> &#8211; even if they\u2019re actually really important.<\/span><\/p>\n        <\/li>\n    <\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"rely-device\" id=\"relytip2\">\n<div class=\"bg\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"container\">\n    <h2 class=\"content-auto half\">Device manufacturers often take a long time\n        to get their drivers into a Windows Update<\/h2>\n    <div class=\"rely-box\">\n        <p>Your computer has lots of hardware inside it (e.g. sound card, video card, network card). And it connects to lots of external devices too (e.g. printer, keyboard, mouse, speakers). All of these devices have their own drivers &#8211; all developed by the device manufacturers. (<a href=\"..\/why-update-your-drivers\/\" onclick=\"gtag('event', 'click', {'event_category': 'link', 'event_label': 'RelyWhyUpdateLink', 'value': 1.00, 'non_interaction': true });\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Learn more about drivers&#8230;<\/a>)<\/p>\n        <p>These companies update their drivers quite often &#8211; usually to fix bugs, to improve hardware performance and stability, to adapt to Windows changes, and to remain compatible with the ever-evolving technologies their customers are using.<\/p>\n        <p>When a manufacturer updates a driver, you don\u2019t get the new driver immediately. Sometimes it will be included as part of the next Windows Update, which might be weeks or even months away. It\u2019s a very difficult and time-consuming process for manufacturers to get a driver into Windows Update. In fact, it\u2019s so difficult that most hardware manufacturers don\u2019t bother doing it for any devices that are older than about 2 years. And a lot of the smaller hardware companies never do it at all &#8211; they simply don\u2019t have the resources to jump through all the hoops Microsoft makes them jump through.<\/p>\n        <p>In other words, if your computer or external devices are more than a year or two old, or they\u2019re not from a big-name brand, there\u2019s a good chance you won\u2019t ever get the driver updates you need through Windows Update.<\/p>\n        <p>Instead, you\u2019ll have to update them yourself, manually, or use a tool like ours, called <a href=\"..\/buy.php?comeid=relytip2\" onclick=\"gtag('event', 'click', {'event_category': 'buy', 'event_label': 'RelyTipTwoLink', 'value': 1.00, 'non_interaction': true });\">Driver Easy Pro<\/a>, to do it automatically.<\/p>\n        <p>Watch this video for more information about why hardware manufacturers often don\u2019t add their drivers to Windows Update:<\/p>\n       \t<div class=\"youtube-wrapper\"><div class=\"youtube\" data-embed=\"XFim_-Cs5Bg\"><div class=\"play-button\"><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"rely-optional\" id=\"relytip1\">\n<div class=\"container\">\n    <div class=\"row\">\n        <div class=\"col-7 fleft\">\n            <h2><span id=\"tip1\">Windows Update often ignores driver updates it considers \u2018optional\u2019<\/span>\n            <\/h2>\n            <p>Whenever Microsoft changes Windows, Windows Update automatically downloads and applies those changes to your computer.\n            <\/p>\n            <p>Often these changes are product enhancements, bug fixes and security patches, but sometimes they\u2019re driver updates. Whenever Windows thinks a new driver is available for one of your devices (e.g. your graphics card, sound card, network card or keyboard),\n                Windows Update will download and install it. This happens automatically, usually in the background, so you don\u2019t normally have to worry about it. You may not even know it\u2019s happening.\n            <\/p>\n            <p>Issue is, <b>Windows isn\u2019t very good at detecting outdated drivers<\/b>. Particularly Windows 10\/11. It categorizes driver updates as either \u2018critical\u2019, \u2018automatic\u2019 or \u2018optional\u2019, and it doesn\u2019t usually concern itself with the \u2018optional\u2019 ones. So long as you have the necessary \u2018critical\u2019 and \u2018automatic\u2019 updates, it\u2019s happy. It won\u2019t, for example, install a new \u2018optional\u2019 update, if it already has an old \u2018critical\u2019 update installed. <\/p>\n            <p>Here\u2019s a <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows-hardware\/drivers\/install\/where-setup-searches-for-drivers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">quote from Microsoft itself:<\/a><\/p>\n            <div class=\"device-quotation\">\n                <div class=\"quotation-txt\">\n                    <p>Windows offers the best matching driver, which is not necessarily the most recent. The driver selection process considers hardware ID, date\/version, and critical\/automatic\/optional category. Windows prioritizes critical or automatic drivers highest. If a matching driver is not found, WU looks next for optional drivers. As a result, an older critical driver of otherwise equal value takes precedence over a newer optional driver.<\/p>\n                <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n            <p>But all driver updates are important, even when Windows calls them \u2018optional\u2019. If they weren\u2019t, the hardware manufacturers wouldn\u2019t go to all the trouble of coding and releasing them, and getting them into a Windows Update (that process is very difficult and time consuming for them).\n            <\/p>\n            <p>Sometimes these \u2018optional\u2019 updates include just a new, nice-to-have feature, and you can arguably do without that. But sometimes it\u2019s an important bug fix \u2013 perhaps the old driver is causing your device to stop working or your computer to crash.
