Hello Jeff,

Thank you for being a long-time user of Driver Easy and for bringing this important question to our attention. We understand your concern—a size difference of over 1.6GB is significant, and we want to provide a clear explanation for this discrepancy.

The Reason for the Size Difference
The difference in size comes down to what exactly is being measured:

NVIDIA Official Website (854MB): This is the size of the initial download file, which is a highly compressed installer package (.exe).

Driver Easy (approx. 2.5GB): This is the uncompressed size of the complete driver package after it has been extracted and is ready for installation.

When you run the NVIDIA 854MB file, the first step is to extract all its contents into a folder. The size of this full, extracted folder is approximately 2.5GB.

In short, Driver Easy reports the size of the full, uncompressed driver package because that’s the total space the files occupy on your disk for installation. The final files being installed are the same.

Regarding Extra Bundled Software
We confirm that Driver Easy is absolutely not adding any extra bundled third-party apps to the NVIDIA driver package. We provide the complete, official driver package as intended by NVIDIA.

We hope this explanation resolves your confusion. Please let us know if you have any other questions. And thank you again for using Driver Easy!

Driver Easy Team

Re: BIG Size Discrepancy In Recent Nvidia Driver (2.5GB size) Installed by Driver Easy vs the Native Graphic Driver from Nvidia which is only 854Mb for Windows 10 version 581.42 –

Hello there Driver Easy Team!

I been using your Driver Easy software app for years and it has been helpful. However, today I noticed something concerning and I would like some answers on this.

I did a graphic driver update for my Nvidia graphic driver via Driver Easy, and what I noticed was not good. The size of the Nvidia driver version 581.42 for Windows 10 is 2.5GB in size as provided by Driver Easy – through your app, which makes no sense because the native size of the driver from the Nvidia official website is 854Mb in size and that is a big size discrepancy. This is the only driver I installed along with one other small size driver, and while it was updating I noticed the size and realized this is not normal, because I have downloaded Nvidia drivers for years directly from the official website and the size of their native official drivers are definitely not that large in size. I never seen any Nvidia driver larger than the latest version, which is 581.42 for reference.

Soon after the install and restart, I opened Driver Easy and looked at the history and all Nvidia driver sizes were between 2.4GB and 2.5GB, which again is much larger than the native driver from the official Nvidia website. This doesn’t seem right.

Can you please explain why there is such a large size difference in the Nvidia graphic card drivers between your version of the driver and the Nvidia official website version? The fact is, the size difference is over 1.6GB larger and that makes no sense at all!? What exactly is being installed is what I would like to know.

I would also like to know if your company is adding any extra bundled third party apps other than the actual Nvidia driver on my Windows 10 computer? Nevertheless, I will not assume anything until I get some answers directly from your company, as this is very concerning and again, makes no sense when it comes to the difference in size between the version Driver Easy installs versus the native driver from the Nvidia official site.

Your prompt attention and response regarding this matter is appreciated.

Thank you.
Jeff

It is disheartening to read it’s still happening.

We should surely by now be able to have common standards for determining what driver update logic should be used for each device and establish consistency. Most users are streetwise nowadays not to be taken in by sales gimmick warning messages saying lots of their drivers are out of date.

A underlying reasonthat many times is overlooked and resulting in unstable systems or worse. It seemed to be the same…

What I cannot understand however is when a newer driver is available with other driver checking software for the exact same function and driver from the same manufacturer.
I would understand such a recommendation IF you’re aware of some malfunction with the newer available driver, but if that’s the case it should be informed of OR explained.

All of this is obvious of course, relating to your reasoning on the matter and I have opened a ticket for the situation and the result I got after buying and trying your software. On my first run.

But one thing that is certain and was very clear is that your software runs quite fast comparing with alternatives and that it was very easy to use for whomever. That means a lot for many uncertain users.

To be continued. Cheers!

Ccleaner peut donc continuer de me signaler des pilotes qui dorment ou manquants. Merci.
